The editors of the portal “Orthodox Life” asked Metropolitan Anthony (Pakanich), who visited Holy Mount Athos as part of a pilgrimage, to tell what he knows about the saving spiritual ladder of the Athonite elders.

– Athos is always peace and joy, being on the Holy Mountain is like a breath of fresh air. Everything here pleases the eye and heart. All the little things and details seem significant and important, any movement of the inhabitants seems to speak meaningfully about something, every spoken word sounds different, more significant in this space, echoing for a long time inside.

There are no trifles on Athos; there is a concentration of life, light, positivity and joy.

I am incredibly happy about every opportunity to come into contact with the life of the Athonite monks, to learn something, to learn something new. Any trip is always an impetus for a new round in life.

Every time you come back renewed and filled with something extremely important and bright, something that you have been looking for for a long time. And then you joyfully remember the unforgettable colors, sounds and faces of Athos: the sunny and friendly, radiant and cheerful faces of the inhabitants, the temple flooded with streams of the sun, the frescoes on the walls, made as if yesterday, reflecting the sunlight with the gold and purple of biblical robes. All this accompanies you for a long time upon your return, encouraging and consoling.

Athonite elders about repentance

On Mount Athos, the main virtues are repentance and obedience. Particular attention is paid to proper repentance. The further path of salvation depends on this. Unfortunately, some people have a misconception about repentance.

Repentance is not at all a call to a person to lower his head and go with the flow of this life. Repentance is not a sign of spiritual weakness.

A spiritually weak person will never be able to admit his mistakes; only a strong spirit is capable of repentance, because it is the grace of God that strengthens him at this moment.

Repentance is the lot of the courageous.

Genuine repentance is not a routine listing of one’s sins in confession, it is an awareness of how dangerous they are for our soul.

To come to true repentance, you need to overcome the ill-fated circles of your passions, with which we are all entwined, as if in a cocoon, and at least partially get out of them in order to see God's world and yourself in the true light, and this is only possible for those brave souls who are strong in spirit, not those who were afraid to challenge themselves, who risked breaking their sinful shackles, rebelling against their corrupted nature.

Behind each ring that encircles us, a new one opens, but it no longer obscures the light of Divine love: with each circle we are closer to God, we are freer, we are more courageous, we are finally happier.

One of the revered Athonite confessors, Elder Dionysius (Ignatus), said that the grace of the Holy Spirit helps if we are courageous; But if we immediately wilt when tempted, then what should we do? And we have so many temptations, because the tempter is a spirit, he is a great trickster and deceives us with great ease.

Repentance is an opportunity to consider the greatness of the soul among the dirt and debris.

Athonite elders about time

Time feels different on the Holy Mountain. Here millennia touch the heart, the eyes. Here the present pulsates in every moment, measuredly and clearly, you clearly hear its ringing sound, there is no need to look into the future.

But modern man is in a hurry to live in the future, running away from the present, he longs for the future and constantly talks about it. He lives in the future. And he is going to be saved in the future too. The present and the past exist only as proof of the existence of the future. And all life passes in this expectation.

“Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow...” can be heard from everywhere. “I’ll change tomorrow, start tomorrow, love tomorrow, put it off until tomorrow.”

There is only one dimension on Athos - now. And this is a saving dimension. It is accurate and true.

Now it lasts forever. Now it consists of prayer and work, goodness and light, it fills all space.

Contentment with the present leads to humility, that is, complete submission of oneself to the will of God. Thanks to humility, the grace of the Holy Spirit descends on a person.

The Monk Paisius the Holy Mountain teaches that if there is no grace of the Holy Spirit, then a person is good for nothing. The Holy Spirit is Light, divine Light. This is the whole basis...

Grace is the power that makes a person free from the passions and lusts of this age, wrote the Monk Simeon the New Theologian.

It is a sin to kill time, a sin to put off salvation until tomorrow. Time is the only non-replenishable substance in our lives. Every minute is precious and unique, it is imprinted forever in the Book of Life, woven into the pattern of the present, without it, like without a missing puzzle, there will be no overall picture.

Athonite elders about obedience

Obedience is not becoming a Pharisee. Obedience presupposes that the main and unconditional value for a person is God.

"My son! Give your heart to Me” (Prov. 23:26) - the Lord’s appeal to each of us. If the heart is attached to something else, God cannot save such a person.

The lawyer will not answer the Lord's call.

A lawyer cannot strive for eternal life. It is pointless to rely only on the law, for righteousness cannot be achieved by the law (Rom. 7:22-23).

Keeping the commandments is not obedience out of fear or for show, it is understanding the commandments as ineffable gifts of God that can comfort us on this earth and give us bliss in eternal life.

Thanks to the commandments, we maintain a human appearance, otherwise we can all turn into wild animals and attack each other.

The task of obedience is to cultivate love in oneself. To God and neighbor. And from this love arises complete trust in the Creator, the desire to obey Him and fulfill what is commanded.

Without love, obedience and salvation are impossible.

Salvation is the result, the highest point of our relationship with God.

True religious life presupposes only a personal relationship between a person and the Creator. If a person, forgetting about himself, begins to instruct others and “save” them and the Church, this is a sign of spiritual delusion.

Only if a person cares about the salvation of his own soul, does he care about everyone. When a person is saved himself, others around him are saved.

We can help our neighbors if we reveal the light of Christ in our hearts and souls.

Holy Mount Athos is located on the Greek peninsula. It was customary to build Athonite monasteries at an altitude of more than 2500 meters above sea level. Because people forgot God and decided to live without Him. For which they received great sorrow.

Father Paisius advised people to pray to God and not to forget about faith. After all, salvation lies only in her. While the liturgy is being served, people are standing together in prayer, the people are living.

Predictions of the Athonite elders about Russia: modern times

Today there are elders on Mount Athos; politicians strive to visit them to learn about the fate of their country. But if such a person comes with good intentions and a pure heart, then they will tell him about the future of the people. So what are the predictions of the Athonite elders and can they be trusted? Of course, it is possible, and in general, it is even necessary. The advice of God's people has never been superfluous, much less false.

The elders of Athos predict that Russia will again experience trials. But with God she will get through them safely. Why are there such attacks on her? Because the country is Orthodox, people are believers. But the devil, as the enemy of God, does not like this. And he is trying to destroy an Orthodox person. He will try with all his might to do this. But we need to stand firm in faith.

Unfortunately, modern Orthodox patriarchs, false elders, and bishops will not preach Christianity. From their lips will flow heretical speech, aimed not at the salvation of the soul, but at its destruction. Only the Gospel and the teachings of the ancient saints can help modern man.

Soon Jews will rise up against Christians. Türkiye will try to attack the Russian army, but will be thrown out. As a result, in due time this state will disappear from the face of the earth. But this is not yet a victory.

Exist predictions of the Athonite elders about Greece and Russia. Greece is largely considered an Orthodox country. When anti-Christian uprisings begin, Russia will try to help Greece. A lot of blood will be shed in the Vatican, more than one million people will die. But the struggle for faith will continue.

Like Paisius the Holy Mountain, the elders living on the Agora today give words of consolation to believers: pray to the Lord, do not renounce Him, and then nothing bad will happen to you.

They also predict the destruction of wicked people. Sinners will kill each other. But everything comes true. One doctor asked the Elder what awaits us in the future?
- Only God knows the future, my child.
- Geronta, will there be big wars?
- What are you asking, child? And you can’t imagine what will happen!

Prophecy 2:
Today, reading prophecies is like reading a newspaper: everything is written so clearly. My thoughts tell me that many events will happen: the Russians will occupy Turkey, Turkey will disappear from the map, because 1/3 of the Turks will become Christians, 1/3 will die and 1/3 will go to Mesopotamia.
The Middle East will become the scene of wars in which the Russians will take part. A lot of blood will be shed, and even the Chinese will cross the Euphrates River, having an army of 200,000,000, and reach Jerusalem.

A characteristic sign that these events are approaching will be the destruction of the Omar Mosque, because its destruction will mean the beginning of work on the reconstruction of Solomon's temple, which was built on that very spot.
A great war will take place in Constantinople between Russians and Europeans, and a lot of blood will be shed. Greece will not play a leading role in this war, but Constantinople will be given to it, not because the Russians will revere us, but because there is no better solution, and they will agree together with Greece, and difficult circumstances will put pressure on them. The Greek army will not have time to get there before the city will be given to it. The Jews, since they will have the strength and help of the European leadership, will become insolent and show themselves with shamelessness and pride and will try to rule Europe. Then 2/3 of Jews will become Christians.
Unfortunately, today people who have no relation to the Church and with absolutely worldly wisdom are being pushed into theology, who say different things and commit impermissible actions, with the goal of deliberately removing Christians from the faith with their position. The Russians did the same when they wanted to introduce communism in Russia. What were they doing there? After some incorrect priests and theologians joined the party - and were already “at one with them” - they were forced to accuse the Church and often speak against it. So they poisoned the people because they could not recognize the role of these theologians. Then they took one of their priests, who was very fat due to illness, searched for months for some bony guy, put them on one poster and wrote at the bottom: “This is how the Church lives and how the people are in poverty.” They also took a photograph of the patriarch's chambers, covered with carpets, furniture, etc., and placed next to the barracks of one of the beggars (like our gypsies) and said: look at the luxury of the priests and how the Russian citizen vegetates! So they managed to little by little poison the people and “spoil their thoughts.” And after the people devoured each other, they also appeared and, as we know, threw Russia back 500 years and left it dying, killing millions of Russian Christians.
They will plot many intrigues, but through the persecution that follows, Christianity will be completely united. However, not in the way that those who are machinating a worldwide union of churches want, wanting to have one religious leadership at its head. They will unite, because in the current situation there will be a separation of the sheep from the goats. Each sheep will strive to be close to another sheep and then “one flock and one Shepherd” will be realized. Are you getting into it? We see that this is already partly being realized: Christians, you saw, have already begun to feel that they are in an unhealthy climate, and will try to avoid painful situations and flock in thousands to monasteries and churches. You will soon see that there are two parts of people in the city: those who will live a prodigal life far from Christ, and the rest who will flock to vigils and places of worship. The average state, as it is now, can no longer exist.

Prophecy 3:
One day I came down and saw the Elder somewhat embarrassed and upset. He treated me and began to speak:
“Some people came here and began to tell me that there would be a war, and that the Turks would enter Greece, and that they would drive us six miles to Corinth (explaining the prophecy of Cosmas of Aetolia, erroneously, by their corrupted thoughts). Then I took them on and said that the worst enemy for the Hellenes is that when all over the world certain Hellenes like you spread that if war happens, the Turks will drive us to Corinth, because when the war starts, everyone will have the spirit is broken and they themselves will retreat to Corinth. Moreover, even if this were the truth, one cannot talk about it. Especially when it is not true. And I repeat to you again: don’t talk about this anywhere, because you will do much more evil than many Turkish divisions would do.
I told them this, and they forced me to explain, although I never wanted to talk about prophecies, that the six-mile region that Saint Cosmas speaks of is six miles of sea shelf. This is the topic over which we have been squabbling with Turkey in recent years, and it will be the matter over which we will “grab it.” However, they will not enter Hellas: they will advance only these six miles, and then a great disaster will come upon them from the north, as the scriptures say, and “nothing straight will remain.” A third of the Turks will be killed, a third will convert to Christianity, and the rest will go far to Asia. We will not suffer in any way from the Turks. Some unimportant things will be destroyed, and the wrath of God will come upon them.
I heard this from them and was upset. I could not believe that the Greeks themselves, by spreading such things during peace, would provide the Turks with the greatest help.
They also began to tell me that what Saint Cosmas said: “then it will come when two summers and two Paschals come together,” now that the Resurrection (Easter) coincided with the Annunciation - and winter passed like summer - means that the Turks will attack Hellas (Greece).
We have all become prophets, my father, and we explain things with our minds as we want. And here I was forced to tell them that Saint Cosmas, when he said: “then he will come,” did not mean the Turks. I understood that then freedom would come for the inhabitants of Northern Epirus. And indeed, this year the borders were opened after so many years, and they can, in some way, freely communicate with their fatherland.
My father, I have seen that these people cause great harm by explaining things with their poor minds. And what’s more, they convey their corrupted thoughts to others.

Prophecy 4:
So “nobly” they will divide Turkey into parts
The brother asked the Elder about the events in Serbia, and he, among other things, said:
- Europeans are now making, for the sake of the Turks, independent areas where Muslims live (Bosnia and Herzegovina). I see, however, that Turkey will be divided in a noble way: the Kurds and Armenians will rebel, and the Europeans will demand that these peoples be made independent. They will then say to Turkey: we did you a favor there, now the Kurds and Armenians should gain independence in a similar way. This is how Turkey will be “nobly” divided into parts.
Saint Arsenios in Faras told believers that they would lose their fatherland, but would soon receive it again.

Prophecy 5:
In the summer of 1987, I asked the Elder about the future world war, the one called “Armageddon” and described in the Scriptures.
With fatherly interest, he told me various information. And he even wanted to discover certain signs that would convince us that we are really in the generation of Armageddon. So he said:
“When you hear that the Turks are blocking the waters of the Euphrates in the upper reaches with a dam and using them for irrigation, then know that we have already entered into the preparation of that great war and thus the way is being prepared for a two hundred million army from the rising of the sun, as Revelation says.
Among the preparations is this: the Euphrates River must dry up so that a large army can pass through. Although - the Elder smiled at this place - if two hundred million Chinese, when they arrive there, drink one cup of water, they will drain the Euphrates!
I was told that China's army currently numbers two hundred million, i.e. that specific number that St. John writes about in Revelation. The Chinese are even preparing a road, which they call the “miracle of the era”: its width is such that thousands of soldiers lined up in a line can easily pass along it. And by this time they had already brought it to the borders of India.
However, it requires great attention and an enlightened, pure mind in order for us to be able to discern the signs of the times, because, in some ways, it happens that those who do not care about the purification of hearts cannot discern them, and, as a result, , is easily mistaken. Suppose someone knows that in order for an army of millions to pass through, the Euphrates River must dry up. However, if one expects this to happen miraculously, i.e. Suppose a large crack opens and all the water disappears, then such a person will be in error, for he did not take care to “enter the spirit” of the Scriptures through purity of heart. Something similar happened with Chernobyl: in Revelation, St. John the Theologian reports that he saw a star falling from the sky and striking the waters and people. Those, however, who expect a star to fall from the sky have long been deluded and will never understand that this has already happened. Chernobyl in Russia means “Wormwood” and we see that enormous damage has been caused, and it will be even greater as time goes on...”

Prophecy 6:
During the procession of the Holy Lady in 1992, the umbrella over the icon of Panagia was held by an ensign from Ioannina. As we walked, I was on his right, and on his left was the Elder, who at some point said to the officer:
- Come on, pray well, so that you will be a standard bearer in the City (Constantinople) when we enter.
And turning to me he said:
- Did you hear what I said?
- Yes, Geronta, I heard. Amen. - I answered him.
Then he smiled and said his characteristic:
- A! (Okay, exactly!).
A day later I went down to his cell and asked about the City. And he said:
- We will take back Constantinople, but not us. We, due to the fact that the majority of our youth have fallen, are not capable of this. However, God will arrange it so that others will take the City and give it to us - as a solution to their problem.

Prophecy 7:
A group of small disciples from Athonias descended to the Elder. They were occupied with one topic: they heard as if the Elder had told some that we would take Constantinople. And they wanted to hear it themselves from his lips and especially ask whether they would live at that time. So, they talked among themselves on the way that someone should ask the Elder about this topic. So they came and sat down with him, but no one dared to ask such a question. They stood up, took the blessing and headed towards the path. The elder, seeing them off, said smiling:
- And know: we will take Constantinople and you too will live at that time!
The disciples were struck like thunder by what he said, and they were amazed at the grace that he had, and that he was informed about everything by it, and also that all these terrible things would happen in their generation.

Prophecy 8:
Mr. D.K. visited the Elder. At that time, the USSR was very strong in all respects and no one could even imagine that it could collapse - it was still under Brezhnev’s rule.
The elder, by the way, told him:
- You will see that the USSR will soon collapse.
Mr. D. objected:
- But who can destroy such strong power, Geronta? And they don’t dare touch his nail.
- You'll see!
The elder predicted that the USSR would collapse, and that Mr. D. would still be alive and see this (despite the fact that he was already old).
And the Elder continued:
- Know that Türkiye will also fall apart. There will be a war for two and a half years. We will be winners because we are Orthodox.
- Geronta, will we suffer damage in the war?
- Eh, at most, they will occupy one or two islands, and Constantinople will be given to us. You'll see, you'll see!

Prophecy 9:
One afternoon a group of pilgrims arrived at the Elder’s cell. Having taken the blessing, they sat down in the outer archondarik. The elder with good nature brought them traditional Turkish delight, refreshing water and fresh cherry plum, which previous pilgrims had brought to him. He sat down next to him and began a conversation:
Elder: How do they live in the world?
Dimitri: In general, Geronta, the media spreads evil and is aimed at this. Moreover, small children are also molested.
Elder: What does the law say? Are you filing lawsuits?
Dimitri: We are trying, Geronta, to do something, but they do not accept words.
Elder: You always have a clear conscience because you do your duty. God will arrange the rest.
Dimitri: Can you tell us, Geronta, how we should behave in this evil world? So... in general.
Elder: Reasoning is needed. Do you have a confessor?
Dimitri: Yes, Geronta.
Elder: Consult with your confessor, because sometimes we cannot say “yes” or “no,” so reasoning is required.
Here the Elder stood up and left them alone, and they, seizing an opportune moment, agreed to ask the Elder to tell him about Constantinople. Soon the Elder returned and, to the amazement of everyone, before they could ask anything - showing that his spiritual “radar” had picked up their thoughts - he told them:
Elder: What do you say, will we take the City?
They were speechless and did not say anything.
Elder: Tell me, will we take the City?
The group says nothing in amazement.
Elder (jokingly): Braggarts...
Theodore: Let's take it, Geronta.
Elder: Glory to You, God. (He crosses himself to the east and looks towards the City.)
Dimitri: If God bless, Geront, we will take him.
Elder: Yes, it is from God! Let's take him! Only we won’t take it, but they will give it to us. Those who take it from the Turks will give it to us as a solution, because... will believe that this is beneficial to them.

Dimitri: Will there be proper leadership?
Elder: God will arrange it. In this war, everyone will emerge victorious. The Greek army will be spectators. No one will return victorious. The arena will be Palestine, their grave will be the Dead Sea. This will be in the first half time. But there will also be a second half-time: after these events, a person will come to hopelessness, and then everyone will study the Gospel and the Scriptures. Christ will have pity on the world and show a sign for faith. Then you will look for an unbeliever.
Demetrius: Geronta, the troparion to the prophet Elijah says that he is “the second forerunner of the coming of Christ.” He, as we know, did not die, just like Enoch. Will the prophet Elijah come to earth?
Elder (smiling): Prophet Elijah sharpens and prepares his knife! And even before that he will begin with the patriarchs, rulers, priests and monks!
Nikolai: And worldly ones.
Elder: You have ignorance, we have sins. Doesn’t the prayer at the Divine Liturgy say: “About our sins and about human ignorance”? The Prophet Elijah sharpens his knife: however, a lot of attention is needed, because the Fathers speak differently about some things, and interpret the world differently, as, say, about the six miles, which Saint Cosmas of Aetolia reports. (The Turks will leave, but will come again and reach six miles. In the end they will be driven out to the Red Apple Tree (Kokkinh Mhlia). Of the Turks, 1/3 will die, the other 1/3 will be baptized and the last 1/3 will go to the Red Apple Tree.) No one can explain this.
There are six miles in Langadas, Kilnis, in Thrace, in Corinth, but no one knows that those he speaks of are six miles of territorial waters. Don't you read from the Prophets: Joel, Zechariah, Ezekiel, Daniel? It's all said there. For seven years in Palestine they will burn not wood, but sticks, but how do you know the difference between sticks and firewood! You now have heaters in your houses (smiling), while here I burn wood in the stove and know what’s what.
(We are talking about the prophecy of the prophet Ezekiel - 39, 9-10: “Then the inhabitants of the cities of Israel will come out and make fire and burn weapons, shields and armor, bows and arrows, and maces and spears; they will burn them for seven years. And They will not carry wood from the field, nor cut down from the forests, but they will burn only weapons; they will rob their robbers, and rob their extortioners, says the Lord God.”
Christ: Jews...
Elder: One pious Jordanian told me that the Jews dug a tunnel many meters deep under the Omar Mosque, and they want to destroy the mosque in order to build the Temple of Solomon, because... then, they say, the Messiah will come, i.e. Antichrist. Then the Arabians will say to the Christians: Are you not saying, Christians, that the Messiah has already come? What are they saying here now, the Jews?

The elder, having brought refreshments to the newly approaching pilgrims, asked one of them:
Elder: Will we take the City? What do you say?
Christ: I will go to Northern Epirus.
Elder: Let's take the City, let's take Northern Epirus with all of us!
Christ: Seven and I are eight!
Elder: Well done! And I will transfer the relics of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, they are heavy! What can I say, guys, our books (church books) write and talk about all this, but who reads them? People have no idea. Sleeping in bast shoes!
Dimitri: Are these, Geronta, signs of the times?
Elder: You don’t see the signs, the signs of the times... You must be, excuse me, a sheep not to understand what is happening... Many of the Holy Fathers prayed in order to live in our time, for it is a time of confession. We sleep in bast shoes. Soon they will ask Christians, as they used to ask for their political beliefs.
Nikolai: Will they open a case against us, Geronta?
Elder: Oh, bravo! Affairs.
Dimitri: Geronta, will Greece suffer?
Elder: Greece has passed through many thunderstorms, but there will be more! Greece will not suffer in any way, for God loves her. In Asia Minor we had many relics. On every inch of land you will find holy relics. Let's take Hagia Sophia and the gates will open. Nobody knows this gate... we'll see what happens, though? What will the minarets become later?
Nikolai: We will destroy them.
Theodore: Let's make them bell towers.
Elder (smiling): No, they will become pillars for the pillars, and the rosary will hang down to the bottom!
Dimitri: Will the leaders of this war be Jews?
Elder: Yes, there will be Jews. The Pope will also help a lot, because all the children of the devil will be considered his (i.e. the Pope) and he will instruct them to follow the Antichrist. That’s why Saint Cosmas said: “Curse the Pope, because... he will be the cause.” The saint meant the Pope of that particular time, who would help install the Antichrist. Other Popes will seem good in comparison.
After hearing this for the first time and the amazing thing that the Elder’s love showed them, the whole group remained silent and excited for some time. The elder stood up, blessed them and showed them the way so that they would not get lost and get to the place.
They left the Elder’s cell shocked, thinking about what God had in store for the future. They also thought that such apocalyptic events should never be forgotten. The names of the group are real, and the brothers asked your love to pray for them, that they may find favor before God. Amen.

Brief information about the life of Elder Paisius
Elder Paisios of Athos (in the world Arsenios Eznepidis) was born in Pharas of Cappadocia, in Asia Minor, on July 25, 1924, on the day of St. Anna, from pious parents. He was baptized on August 7, 1924 by Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia, who gave him his name at baptism. As a child, I really wanted to become a monk. Before serving in the army, he worked as a carpenter, just as our Lord did when he was on earth. In 1945 he was drafted into the army and served as a radio operator. In 1949, he finished his service and immediately went to the Holy Mountain. In 1950 he came to Esfigmen Monastery. There in 1954 he received a ryassophore with the name Averky. In the same year, he went to the sacred monastery of Philotheus, where his uncle was a monk. In 1956, he was tonsured into the minor schema with the name Paisios in honor of Metropolitan Paisios II of Caesarea, with whom they were compatriots (he also came from Farasa of Cappadocia). In 1958, having received a notice from God, he retired from Athos to the sacred monastery of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Stomio Konitskaya. There, with the help of God's grace, he helped thousands of souls and from there in 1962 he went to Sinai for some spiritual reasons. In Sinai he lived in the cell of Saints Galaktion and Epistimia. He returned to the Holy Mountain in 1964 and settled in the Iveron Skete, in the cell of the Holy Archangels. In 1966 he fell ill and was treated for many months in the hospital, where most of his lungs were taken away. While at the monastery, Stavronikita was close to the famous confessor Father Tikhon, who came from Russia and had many spiritual gifts. The elder served him with great self-sacrifice, offering all the help that was required. Elder Paisiy settled at the request of Father Tikhon (after his death) in his cell of the Holy Cross, where he lived until 1979. After that, he came to the sacred monastery of Kutlumush and settled in the cell of Panaguda. In Panaguda, the Elder helped thousands of souls. All day, from sunrise to sunset, he advised, consoled, resolved problems, banished all embarrassment and filled souls with faith, hope and love for God. He suffered greatly from various illnesses, which he endured with the greatest patience and courage. On October 22, old style (November 5, new style), 1993, I left the Holy Mountain for the last time and went to the hesychastirium of St. John the Theologian in Suroti to attend, as usual, the vigil of the feast of St. Arsenius, which is venerated on November 10. Due to illness, he was forced to stay there and on Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at 11:00 am, the Elder gave up his venerable soul quietly and humbly to the Lord, Whom he loved so much and Whom he served from his youth. He was buried in the monastery of St. John the Theologian in Suroti Thessalonica. He left a commandment: not to remove his relics from the ground until the Second Coming.

The prophecy of this Athonite elder was remembered quite recently, when the Russian SU-24 airliner was shot down in the skies over Turkey. This Greek monk, who has gained respect throughout the world, has long foreshadowed a military confrontation between Russia and Turkey. A little history

Paisiy was born on July 25, 1924 in Greece. After graduating from school, he, like an ordinary guy, went to serve in the army. In 1950, he became interested in religion and went to the Kutlumush Monastery. Here he lived almost his entire life, engaged in religious practice. In May 1978, the monk moved to the Athonite cell, where he began to receive a huge number of people. He died near Thessaloniki in 1994. Orthodox Christians all over the world continue to come to the grave of this famous elder, which is located in the Theological Monastery. According to a further prediction that Svyatogorets made back in the nineties of the last century, a terrible war will begin between Russia and Turkey. As a result of this confrontation between Christians and Muslims, a third of the Turks will convert to Christianity, another third of the Turkish population will die, and the rest will be forced to leave their homeland. Back in 1991, Paisius mentioned the fall of Constantinople and the destruction of the Turkish state. The bloodshed will be so large-scale that three-year-old bulls will “swim” in a sea of ​​blood. Western European countries will also take part in the war, but they will oppose Russia. Constantinople will be handed over to the rightful owner of this city - Greece, although it will not fight.

The events of recent times indicate that the elder’s words are already coming true. The Russian Federation is already fighting the Islamic State in Syria. Türkiye is also indirectly present in this conflict. The situation in this country is quite tense and it is unclear what it will lead to, especially after the strengthening of the power of leader R. Erdogan after the attempted military coup. Western countries, Israel and the United States also do not remain aloof from the flaring fire of war. Everything suggests that the Third World War may begin in this region. Soon a new redistribution of the world will begin.

What awaits Russia in the future?

The Athonite elder predicted that Russia would become the leader in the defense of Orthodoxy and the Russian-speaking population. He is echoed by other elders of Athos, who claimed the beginning of a new era. In this new time, a new leader must appear on the territory of the Russian Federation, sent by God to save the world from destruction.

Elder Tikhon, who lived in the Trinity Monastery fifty years ago, predicted a conflict in Ukraine. The cause of the war, in his opinion, will be overseas forces.
